Artful Animals
“Through her brush, Deans-Rowe bridges the divide between human and non-human worlds, inviting viewers to experience the animal not as other, but as kin.”

Why I Paint Animals
Animals have a way of grounding us. They are a calming presence (most of the time) and they offer a love that's almost overwhelming in its honesty. I’m particularly drawn to their eyes, which can hold an entire conversation or just a simple expression of acceptance.
My portraits are an attempt to capture exactly that — sincerity and effortless devotion.

My style is expressive rather than photorealistic. Check out my gallery to get a feel for my work.
To commission a pet portrait, please fill out the form below. I will follow up with the details about materials, pricing, and the process. I look forward to learning more about your pet!

The best pet portraits come for the best photos. There are few simple guidelines for taking a great reference photo.
Get down to eye level. Photos taken from above don’t highlight the eyes and offer a natural angle of your pet.
It’s all in the eyes. Make sure they are in sharp focus and, if possible, have a bit of natural light reflecting. Focus on the eye closet to you.
Take the picture in natural light if possible. The soft and warm light in the morning or late afternoon are best. Please do not use a flash.
Try to capture your pet’s personality. Is she playful? Is he curious? Try to catch what you love about your pet.
Use treats or toys to keep your pets attention if it helps.
Have fun!

In addition to pets, I paint cats and farm animals that are available as original paintings and prints.
My process involves loose conte sketches and expressive marks. Sometimes the subject interacts with the viewer, and sometimes they are grazing, sleeping, or just enjoying a sunny spot.
-
I use Golden acrylics and high-quality canvas or linen.
Prices vary by size. For example, a 10 × 10 is $200.00 (unframed) plus taxes and shipping. I request a deposit of 50%.
Portraits take 4-6 weeks. Larger works can take longer. I share the original sketch and a mid-point photo along the way for your feedback.
